Relationships

Who’s that Guy?

What, am married you say? I’m in a relationship?  There’s someone else who needs my time, too? You don’t say! Lol

It saddens me at times when I think how much time goes in between before my husband gets my full attention to be focused on him.  We have just had a lot of lost in our family (loss of parents) and I want to be there for him but he seems to go unnoticed.  I don’t want to be insensitive to his needs but the fact that he is one that doesn’t speak much.  His “red flags” are not as loud as the children.  I do know that someday the children will go and it will be just he and I again. I can’t expect him to wait till then to get time with me.  How do I in the meantime not let distance build between us?  Got to keep watering that relationship!

Every time that we do manage to go out, ALONE, we say that we won’t let so much time goes by before our “rendezvous”.  Lol!  Attending our church annual couples retreat has helped tremendously.  He is packed a week in advance for our retreats.  Lol!  This year we have decided that we should incorporate a “Just Us” weekend and still keep the family vacations we have with the kids every year.  We went to New Orleans this year!  Now that the kids are getting older we are able to go out to dinner or try to catch a movie more. (If we are not to sleepy. LOL)

I know that money may be a barrier.  I have planned at times for both kids to have an outing, coinciding with him being off from work and he and I can have the house to ourselves!  Doesn’t matter if it is day or night! & yes we use that time to read a book!  LOL! Use your imagination people.  LOL

Sometimes in our so “involvedness” with the kids we forget the person who helped in starting all of this fullness that we are feeling as a parent.  What are you doing to keep the fire burning while parenting?  If you are not keeping the fire burning what are some pitfalls?  If that special someone is no longer around because of “the kids” as he might have put it, what is your advice?
